ARCHIVO LATINO es un repositorio visual inspirado en el mail-art (arte postal) dedicado a documentar la identidad y cultura de América Latina y su diáspora.
Inspirado por la dinámica del arte postal mail art, el proyecto opera como una plataforma abierta en constante construcción, invitando a viajeros y habitantes cercanos y lejanos a convertirse en coautores mediante una "Carta de Solicitud". Estas cartas están dirigidas a latinos en Latino America y a no latinos en Latino América.
Al descentralizar la figura del archivista, el proyecto construye una memoria colectiva de la región a través de los ojos de quienes la recorren. Registrando las irregularidades arquitectónicas y encuentros humanos cotidianos, el proyecto documenta formas de habitar, construir y adaptarse en el contexto Latinoamericano.
Las cartas invitan a escuchar lo ausente tanto como lo presente, a leer la arquitectura desde lo informal, lo precario y lo ingenioso de los latinos. El proyecto se enfoca en la cotidianidad latinoamericana, autoconstruida, adaptada, incompleta, como expresión material de condiciones sociales, económicas y culturales. También explora la relación entre espacio, movimiento y prácticas culturales como el comer, el tránsito y la interacción humana.
El Archivo esta compuesto por un equipo central de cuatro mujeres: Andrea Sánchez Moctezuma, BASA Atelier (Signe Ferguson & Ana Batlle) y Renee Neme. La colección abarca ahora más de diez países, 77 cartas y más de 250 respuestas fotográficas.
El equipo se enfocan en traducir estas expresiones materiales y en crear una esfera digital que trascienda la documentación tradicional y destaque las intersecciones profundas entre la arquitectura, la emoción y las prácticas culturales latinoamericanas.

ARCHIVO LATINO is a mail-art-inspired visual repository
dedicated to documenting the identity and culture of Latin America and its diaspora.
Inspired by the dynamics of mail art, the project operates as an open platform in constant construction, inviting travelers and inhabitants—both near and far—to become co-authors through a "Letter of Request." These letters are addressed to both Latinos and non-Latinos within Latin America.
By decentralizing the role of the archivist, the project builds a collective memory of the region through the eyes of those who traverse it. By recording architectural irregularities and everyday human encounters, the project documents ways of inhabiting, building, and adapting within the Latin American context.
The letters invite participants to listen to the absent as much as the present—to read architecture through the informal, the precarious, and the ingenuity of the people. The project focuses on the Latin American everyday—self-built, adapted, and incomplete—as a material expression of social, economic, and cultural conditions. It also explores the relationship between space, movement, and cultural practices such as food, transit, and human interaction.
The Archive is driven by a core team of four women:
Andrea Sánchez Moctezuma, BASA Atelier (Signe Ferguson & Ana Batlle) and Renee Neme. The collection initiated as a study of non-indexed architectural typologies in Mexico,today it includes material from over ten countries, 77 letters and over 250 photographic responses.
Together the team focuses on translating these material expressions into a digital public sphere that transcends traditional documentation and highlights the profound intersections of architecture, emotion, and Latin American cultural practices.
